"LEGITIMATE RAPE"

I note that the Republican Party is now up in arms against one of their own, whose crime was to say out loud what many of them believe.  The mainstream of this far-right party agree on legislation to outlaw all abortion, even in cases of rape and incest.  They have proposed as much, and have confirmed their position in votes in the House of Representatives.  Their current outrage rings hollow.  It is pure political posturing, and has nothing to do with the substance of the issue.  I'll withdraw the comment if and when more Republicans renounce their previously-embraced position on abortion, not when they merely denounce a fellow Republican for presuming to draw attention to that position by giving it voice.

The GOP is constantly fending off gaffes made by many members of their party. Consistency is what voters trust. I look forward to the debates. I do hope that clarity will bring light to our electorate during the debates. The super pacs advertising is a numbing dumbing down practice.

The debate on October the 3rd at the University of Denver moderated by Jim Lehrer (Host of NewsHour on PBS) has the potential of clearing the air. as do the next two at Hofstra and Lynn universities in the swing states of NY and FL.

Obama is an experienced debater and Romney is not as practiced with the debate format. Chances for gaffes on his part are always waiting in the wings. I am anxious about the VP debate at Centre College. While I feel that Paul Ryan is a Tea Party wing nut he is a very good public speaker and, unlike Biden, has not made many gaffes.

Between now and then I hope for a healthy exchange of factual information so that the public will have a chance to compare the choices.

This election is as important as the last one for the 'steady movement away' from Reaganomics or supply-side economics that DubYa and Co used to run down the Clinton surplus must continue!

For Miff The Gaffer and Paul The Grifter, from another time in Merry old England

"One fine day in the middle of the night" (Journal Versions)

One fine day in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys* got up to fight, [*or men]
Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords and shot each other,
One was blind and the other couldn't, see
So they chose a dummy for a referee.
A blind man went to see fair play,
A dumb man went to shout "hooray!"
A paralysed donkey passing by,
Kicked the blind man in the eye,
Knocked him through a nine inch wall,
Into a dry ditch and drowned them all,
A deaf policeman heard the noise,
And came to arrest the two dead boys,
If you don't believe this story’s true,
Ask the blind man he saw it too!

I think it is Opie who wrote this..
